SHERIDAN STYLE REVOLVER HOLSTER (.38/.357 CAL)

This 6” revolver holster was created with European premium grade carving leather tanned from Scandinavian cowhides, free from brands, bug bites and other anomalies with a clean parchment like appearance. After the pattern was cut out with an artisan quality handmade head knife, the edges of the leather were beveled using a specialized leather beveler; this is done by hand (instead of by machine) to ensure precision. About 19 hours of tooling (leather carving) went into the elaborate Sheridan Style design before the whole piece was dyed with a high quality antiquing formula to bring out a lovely aged appearance. Once the dye had fully dried, any remaining pigment was buffed off the surface before applying a flexible wax-based finish that is well known for reliably preventing bleeding and dye transfers. The beveled edges were then slicked down by hand until smooth and shiny using only natural beeswax. Finally, the holster was laced up with tasteful kangaroo rawhide (after soaking it) using a double whipstitch technique, which has been prized historically for its durability and beauty. The total project length took 24 hours, or one full day.

The original cut out pattern was replicated from an early 1900’s Browning Brothers antique holster that we restored prior to taking this project; this pattern can be easily reversed to accommodate a left handed draw upon request. The holster shown above was dyed using a dark brown antique formula, but we also offer the same formula in a lighter, more gold-toned Sheridan Brown antique. The holster was designed to fit most .38 special and .357 magnum caliber revolvers in a 6'“ barrel length; photos above are shown with a .357 Taurus Model 66 Revolver.
